John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park (Snorkel)

This beautiful national park, the first undersea park in the United States, encompasses over 70 nautical square miles featuring an abundance of coral reefs and marine life. The park itself offers two 2-1/2 hour snorkel trips daily at 9AM and 3PM. These tours are strictly for snorkelers and you will have 1-1/2 hours in the water. If you do not have your own gear you may rent the mask and fins for $2 each and purchase a snorkel for $3. Instruction is given on basic snorkel technique once the sight is reached and the crew, all PADI certified, are there to assist if anyone has a problem in the water. The snorkel boat visits the better shallow reefs, about 20 feet deep which are perfect for snorkelers, including White Banks Dry Rocks, Grecian Rocks, Banana Reef, Garret's Reef/Cannon Patch and, of course, Key Largo Dry Rocks where the Christ of the Abyss statue is located. Here you will see a variety of small fish, young coral and maybe even a lobster or two. Hours of the park are 8AM-sunset.
