Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park

Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park is a tropical hardwood island that is only accessible by boat. This serene setting was once the home of William Metheson, who in 1919, built a caretaker's home with a windmill for electricity and a cistern for rainwater. This building is now used for the visitor's center. To reach the island you can either take the ferry or rent a powerboat or kayak from Robbie's Marina (MM87.5). Once there, you can picnic or snorkel/dive the area and make sure to take one of the ranger-guided tours that are given twice daily at 10AM & 2PM where you will hear the history of the area and see a beautifully restored coquina house, cannons and other outbuildings.
