Islamorada name is said to have been named after a schooner, Island Home, owned by Pinder, a pioneering family, to justify a station stop for Henry Flagler's railroad (they would only stop at named towns)

Florida Keys Kayak - The Kayak Shack

There is no better place to kayak through the backcountry than in Islamorada. Located in Robbie's Marina, Florida Keys Kayak has tours through the backcountry where, for 2 hours, you will paddle through mangrove trails and view an abundance of wildlife or take their 2-3 hour sunset tour through the mangrove tunnels and saltwater flats during the setting of the sun. Don't forget your camera as the shots are always fantastic. Don't want to take a tour, kayak rentals, canoes, as well as paddleboards are available to make the trip to nearby Indian or Lignumvitae Key or explore the mangroves on your own.
