Partying in Key West – A Few Favorite Bars

countdown 2 days

Now everyone knows that you can’t possibly go to Key West and not hit any of their bars! I swear it is the best place in the US to party! The weather is great, the bars are within walking distance, the people are super friendly and the drinks are reasonably priced, especially during happy hour.

Duval Street

Night time brings more fun with Duval Street turning into one big long nightclub with every kind of music and comedy act trying to win your attention. I love to stop in just about any of them but here are the ones I would not want to miss.

The Bull Key WestThe Bull & Whistle: a three-story bar with the lower area sporting a central bar and small stage for musicians, the second story is a must for all you sports fans and pool sharks out there and you get the best seat in the house on the verandah overlooking Duval, and the third story is for the brave (or maybe tipsy) – a clothing optional  bar with body-painters on hand.

Rum Barrel entertainment

Rum Barrel Rooftop: Great fun on the upstairs patio. Enjoy the live nightly music, cool breezes, great view & good drinks.  They also have the largest selection of rum in the world. Ask to see the “Rum Bible” with a list of over 100 of the best rums in the world (and you can taste every one of them)

smokin tuna saloon

Smokin’ Tuna Saloon: A great little outdoor/indoor bar with no cover charge (unless a special recording artist is playing), plenty of space and always a good band playing. There are two bar areas with plenty of seating and an enormous tree in the middle for shade as well as lending a certain charm.

Virgilios entertainment

Virgiolios: A cozy backyard martini bar with seating set up under the trees. Located behind  La Trattoria, which by the way is an excellent Italian restaurant, they offer live jazz and blues music.

Schooner Wharf: Be transported back to the old Key West before it became a tourist haven. Enjoy this rustic, laid back, tiki-style bar situated right on the waterfront in the Historic Seaport district. Live music runs day and night with extended happy hours.

Sloppy JoesSloppy Joes: Has some of the best entertainment on the island beginning at noon every day and rocking into the night until 2AM with plenty of room for dancing. (Look for the Robert Albury Band -they are fanastic!) Always crowded & noisy with good drinks at a fair price.  Enjoy the main bar or Joe’s Tap Room which features a variety of crafted beers.

The Porch Key WestAnd my favorite more laid back bar when I want a quieter scene – The Porch.  A bar set in a beautiful historic plantation house with a wonderful ambiance and a great selection of wines and micro-brewed beers. Great place to avoid drunks as they can never find the entrance! lol  Enter the house and take the first door on your left.  Nestled behind some lush landscaping is a beautiful outdoor porch area and some inside seating as well.

And here’s to the ones I haven’t tried or been to in awhile that I will do my best to stop in and have a few and report back to y’all.  They are Krawl Off Duval, a new beer mecca, and JDL’s Big Ten Pub, and I am going to try it even though I am an SEC girl through and through. So stay tuned!
