On to more good food and drink in Key Largo, the first of the Florida Keys.
Lunch – For a real locals place try Calypso’s Seafood Grill (MM100) located at Ocean Bay Marina. Just a casual, peaceful neighborhood place with indoor and outdoor seating, inexpensive and offering the freshest seafood around. Try the tuna tacos, she-crab soup or hogfish. (Note: cash only)
Happy Hour – I always choose the restaurant/bar that will give me the best view of the sunset. You don’t get to see beautiful, colorful skies over the Gulf every day! Start out with drinks and appetizers at the Bayside Grill’s Bayside Sunset Bar (MM99.5) and enjoy some live music and happy hour specials. Afterwards stroll down the dock with its underwater lights. Or, for a little livelier setting, head for Jimmy Johnson’s Big Chill Tiki Bar (MM104). While enjoying the waterfront view you’ll be part of their nightly sunset celebration with local live entertainment.
For dinner, I would opt for a casual, entertaining, good food option such as Sharkey’s Pub & Galley Restaurant (near MM100). Located right on the canal, usually with a local band playing, you can eat some awesome fish tacos or the fresh catch of the day, play some pool, darts or even watch the latest game. Or try the Pilot House Restaurant (near MM99.5) with its glass bottomed bar and serene marina view. Order the conch ceviche, fish dip or tuna tacos appetizer and, for your main meal, their stuffed lobster or fish of the day while enjoying their nightly entertainment. If you want slightly more upscale, try Sundowners on the Bay , sit outside, enjoy the water view and just relax. Try an order of conch fritters and their fresh catch of the day.
Hope you enjoy a weekend in Key Largo soon.
